Tune in to listen to us chatting about the region, the best satellite regions for good value Bordeaux, the terroir, grapes, the confusing classification systems and arguing over the best vintages. Learn about the Dutch making huge changes to Bordeaux in the past, and about Lafite Rothschilds new wine coming out of China.

Unfiltered Ep 16 Tempranillo and code names with "H" from Wapping Wines
Thursday Aug 08, 2019
Thursday Aug 08, 2019
Meet H, the international wine man of mystery and owner of Wapping wines. This episode is all about Tempranillo, its ageing terms of Rioja, the regions in which it grows, its clones and different names, and it’s white mutation. It wouldn’t be a Unfiltered podcast without food talk: Jon’s giving out free apple pie tips to keep your Mcdonalds warm and we get onto the Cannabis train again with the CBT being used in wines. We are talking specifically about Canna wine where you can choose a red or a white wine with all the medicinal benefits of cannabis.
.
This episode we are drinking Almate Alfredo Maestro 2017, Ribera Del Duero, Spain, HB Tempranillo 2016, Vino de la tierra Castilla, Spain and Zuccardi Q Tempranillo 2015, Mendoza, Argentina.

Unfiltered Ep 15 Sangiovese and a mouth full of sausage with Sara Bachiorri
Monday Jul 29, 2019
Monday Jul 29, 2019
We are joined on this episode by Super Sommelier turned Woodwinters, Account Manager, Sarah Bachiorri. Sara is from Umbria, Italy, so naturally, the theme is Sangiovese.
Learn all about the region Chianti, where Sangiovese hails. We talk about its history, its past problems, clonal research and why you should be looking out for clones R24 and T19 ( yep, seriously! ), We probably spend far too much time talking about sausage rolls ( very us ), but in our defence we were in Gezellig Restaurant and Bar and this could be the best bar snack in London, and at least this time we are eating it, so you get a wine and a food tasting this week. We also have a little chat about the Super Tuscans, Tignanello, Sassicaia and Ornellaia. This week we are tasting Antinori Chianti Classico Reserva 2015, Italy, Cantina Goccia, Nodo 2012, Umbria, Italy and Vinea Marson 2013, Heathcote, Australia

Unfiltered Ep 14 "here's looking at you kid" with Rafeal Cabezas-Castro of Paladar
Thursday Jul 11, 2019
Thursday Jul 11, 2019
This episode we are chatting with Sommelier Rafael Castro in the gorgeous Latin American Restaurant Paladar. No surprise that the theme is on South America, however, we all brought along a bottle of Chilean wine. Viva Chile. Rafael tells us how he goes about building a complete wine list when he only uses wines from South America, and we discuss the exciting things about Chile, with its wild vines, no phylloxera, their innovations, and evolutions. We talk about why Malbec is loved so much, and Burgundy even gets a mini appearance, discussing a few dramas from the region. Janina gets overly dramatic about the weather, and we all get to hear about Jons new love of his life: A dog! And as usual, going off-piste: we talk about the most expensive flight in the world at $18,000 and Julian Assange hiding in Equador ( who? Yes Janina still doesn’t know ). Wines tasted are the Lapostelle Grand Selection Semillon 2014, Pais Salvaje Blanc 2018 by Bouchon and the 2012 La Ronciere, Solares. Salud everyone!

Unfiltered Ep 13 That Old Riesling with "London Wine Girl"
Thursday Jun 13, 2019
Thursday Jun 13, 2019
We are joined by the beautiful Charlotte Kristensen – ex-lawyer turned wine lover and blogger. Learn about her mid-life gap year in New York and the legacy she left behind. Charlotte tells us all about her work with the Loire Valley. We talk all about this amazing region, its gems but also its difficulties with labelling terms. Uruguay gets a decent focus too as a wine region and as a country, we all should visit. We discuss Prosecco Superiore DOCG and how it is celebrating it’s 50 years and also the best vintages of Port. We still manage to talk about Japanese toilets squirting up your bum, sexy French accents and an incredible wine label called Sorry for the slow reply – which literally has a naked cartoon man with a humongous penis on it!
These episodes wines are Maverick Trial Hill Riesling 2017 from Eden Valley, Australia, Bouza Riesling 2015 from Canelones, Uruguay and Saurwein Chi Riesling 2018 from Elgin, South Africa. Enjoy!

Unfiltered Filler 01 environment and Sea Change wine.
Friday Jun 07, 2019
Friday Jun 07, 2019
This is our first Filler episode: our shorter episodes, just Jon and Janina talking about issues that are slightly more relevant than the random conversation that ensues on our normal hour-long episodes. We are drinking a Chardonnay from Sea Change. David Attenborough has endorsed these wines are they have been created with the focus of helping the environment. Learn how drinking these wines saves the planet, and also how it’s a great Breakfast wine too! (Yes Breakfast wines are a thing – especially for Jonathan). Latest wine news includes Hawksmoor Restaurant giving away a £4500 bottle of wine ‘by accident’. If only we were that lucky. And to finish with you can learn about the grape Variety Albarino from the region of Rias Biaxas in Galicia, Spain. We are drinking Bodegas Abanico Diluvio. Yum! Enjoy!

Unfiltered Ep 12 Make Wine Great Again
Thursday May 09, 2019
Thursday May 09, 2019
In complete contrast to the educational episode no 11 – This episode is back to the usual banter. We have Sam Jones from Bancroft wines bringing the swag and a banger (listen to find out) who’s starting his campaign for wine baseball caps and making wine great again. Learn exactly how to order in a Pie and Mash shop, we learn that crack cocaine is the new Gucci, and a decent amount of time is spent talking about ice-cream vans. The boys bond over their equal hate of anyone with allergies. We have a few opinions on the latest wine trend of wine in a can and the marketing of wine. And through all that, we managed to taste 3 wines, and you can actually learn about the regions!
We are tasting Joh Jos Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Riesling 2010, Mosel, Ataraxia Pinot Noir 2016, Hemel-en-Aarde and Picasso Tempranillo, Peru.
Mangetout!

Unfiltered Ep 11 Some Skin Contact
Thursday Apr 18, 2019
Thursday Apr 18, 2019
This is the episode of genuine focus. We are joined by Head Sommelier Antonio Palmarini who comes from the Abruzzo region in Italy. Learn all about the region, the grapes ( oh there are so many grapes ), the struggles and where Abruzzo is heading. We taste some absolutely cracking wines: Collepietro Passarina 2016 by Faraone (exactly! What?), and two Montepulciano d’Abruzzos, one which is made entirely naturally: Senzaniente and the other 2013 by the legendary producer Emidio Pepe. Somehow we still managed to squeeze in the typical nonsense. Jonathan gets very opinionated about religion and the use of donations towards Notre Dame. On a lighter side, he is shamelessly plugging his new project: Sommelier socks! Who wants some? So sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy your first real wine nerdy episode.

Unfiltered Ep 10 We are back with Climate Change, Flat Earth and Dominatrix
Thursday Apr 04, 2019
Thursday Apr 04, 2019
The first episode of season 2 and we are joined by the lovely Nacho Campos, originally from Mexico. We talk Mexican wine, naturally! Jon and Janina get into a usual squabble, and conversations get a little more serious than normal when discussing climate change, and Torres and Jackson family estates plan for “International Wineries for Climate Action”. Obviously, things go down hill when discussions turn to Polar bears and crazy women who jump into cages with them, plus the dominatrix named Miss Foxx who recently walked a grown man on all fours through Waterloo train station. The recording happened at The Arch Borough which is owned by Laithwaites. We drunk three wines from their Coravin selection: 2014 Livio Felluga Terre Alte, 2015 Domain Zind-Humbrecht Roche Calcaire and 2014 Domaine Doudet Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. All were absolutely delicious! Enjoy!
